Kids of Seasons

Basic Information

The story behind:

My oldest son wanted a cushion for the cozy corner in the kindergarten. He attended the sun group. In consultation with the teacher, the pillow should have a sun motif. The children are the annual cycle through their clothing. Each child stands for a particular month. And every child has got its own name. Similarities with some children living in the sun group are given, and quite intentional.

Expression:
The pattern are available as pdf. To open the files you needed the Acobat reader. You´ll find a free download here.
Please heed the expression of the fact that 100% or "without adjustment" is set or is printed out. The only way you'll get all the patterns printed the same size.

Please note: In the drawings is shown for orientation can be measured cm.

With a printout of the file, the drawing is reduced play. To produce the original size, please copy the templates by 125%.

For any queries send me an e-mail to capricornquilts at yahoo.de.

If someone wants to work in a different size than stated, the pressure can be adjusted or to copy in a copy shop the pattern larger. Smaller templates I do not recommend!

The patterns always stand for 30 days and one month free of charge. An "in retrospect" it will therefore not give unfortunately. Please accepts this.

Material (for example) for a pillow :
2 x 90 x 90 cm base material, preferably in dark blue or black
(Cushions front and rear cushions)
1 x 90 x 90 cm thin fleece
(1 x 90 x 90 cm inner fabric for the top of the cushion fabric remnants can be seen not afterwards)
Vliesofix
1 zip 70 cm
dark blue or black sewing thread
yellow fabric for the sun (40 cm for a work without a seam)
beige fabric for hands, faces, arms and legs of children
v
arious scraps of clothing of children
and of course an inner cushion 80 x 80 cm
c
halkpen
(see also further processing)

The application method is a little different than usual.
Normally the items are stacked and applied.
Here I have always arranged the parts with a small gap. Each piece is individually on the background fabric and is sewn on individually. The background material is here as a kind of "Stained Glass" effect. Everywhere he flashes out from between the individual parts and then frames each piece. See also the corresponding images.

Important preparations:
The top of the pillow front, the fleece and the back of the pillow front attach well or use a spray adhesive. Everything will be applied directly onto the wire-stitched top. The three layers applied throughout the subsequent saves quilting. For better orientation, please bring lines (diagonally, vertically and horizontally centered and centered on the outer edge 80 x 80 cm), for example, with a light chalk to the top. Please use only sticks that can be guaranteed brushed or washed out again.

Transfer the pattern on Vliesofix (there are also other adhesive media) - all patterns are already mirrored and ready for working. Proficiency with Vliesofix ahead, I bet. The selected materials are prepared with the adhesive fleece. The motifs reflected on the smooth side of the paper record with a pencil, then cut out and placed onto the background fabric. By ironing the motive is now stuck firmly on the background. Please urgently on the right side otherwise eighth bonded very quickly the iron or ironing board. Evt. Wax
paper to protect hang up.

Please start with the center (sun) and work your way through the sun's rim to the children outside.

The children are placed so that they almost touch and eventually form a circle around the sun.

Please note that the fabric pieces to be applied touch at any point. It gives the impression of a leaded windows, a "Stained Glass" effect. Between the different materials an approximately 3 to 4 mm wide strip remains visible in the background to see the individual images of children.

The children have no faces. For one, I think it is here with the tradition of the Amish who embroider their dolls never paint on faces or, as it will spare an image of the face and only one God viewed as perfect. Secondly, I wanted to spare myself the trouble of 12 different child pairs of eyes, mouths and noses to embroider, because I do not find that easy.

Background:
A dark background in dark blue, black or anthracite has been vindicated. The shapes and colors are so much better than before.

Stitch:
I have worked with a Pfaff 7550 and worked with the buttonholestich. Settings 1 and stitch length stitch width 1.5. Through the dark background of small "stitches fall" during application of the machine to not so much.

But not all sewing machines have this stitch.
Try just a few bites and then take the one you like best.
Of course, the application parts can all be sewn by hand with the buttonholestich.

Further processing:
I sewed a pillow from the top.
The pillow is finished 80 x 80 cm high. How to sew a cushion and sew a zipper may want to require I sit.
Of course, how to sew a cushion no obligation! Thus, a wall hanging, a tablecloth or something else may come of it.
The children can also be placed side by side in a row and shown with a smaller sun a beautiful runner. Ideas, there are certainly many.

Embroidery:
The designs are also suitable for embroidery.

Transfer of the pattern:
I use to print my light box - model to attach paper to the light box, cloth over it, embroidered with a fine pencil to copy / magic pen (blue) / fine pencil -. Please test this magic pens before, and never rest on a fabric ironing, when the pen has not been washed out - that can go wrong!

Another possibility is the hanger pin. In order to paint the pattern by - on the back of the printed pattern. This can again take the light box, or to put a window in daylight (with the beduckten page paper on the glass and the bracket pin) trace. Paper with the painted side onto the fabric basket, ironing - careful not to move and lift off paper.

As a light box can also be used, for example, the extension table by some sewing machines, provided they are made of transparent material. Lamp including basket and begin.
Or, if available, a glass panel of a larger picture frame on 4 "blocks" from a book basket, basket lamp underneath,
or an old scanner
or living room table with glass top,
or on top of other boxes with a glass plate, into which one can deposit a lamp.
Please be careful with the lamps to ensure adequate ventilation, so it's not too hot.

Some printers can now also print directly onto the fabric - this must be the substance, however, and pretreat hinterbügeln with freezer paper, or buy pre-treated fabric, which I think is too expensive and it is perhaps not the right base fabric.

Does somebody want to work on dark fabrics, then we can apply the Prickel-chalk method.

Base Fabric:
Here you can actually take things you like.
Batiste is a little too fine, which can also be helped if you iron a thin fleece back. This strengthens the fabric and one does not see the sewn threads or clamping threads from one to another drive location.
Each standard cotton fabric is suitable. Whether plain or patterned in a matter of taste. Color - is also a matter of taste.
I use a normal PW-Basic and ironed him with a thin fleece.

Embroidery Thread:
I take normal Twist - with three strands --
Even here it is free to make any decisions on his own. You can also use a thin pearl cotton, Wildflower yarns, etc.
Whether one or more colors ... Again a matter of taste!

Embroidery Stitches:
You can embroider the entire block in an embroidery stitch. I provides the backstitch. But you can also use the stem stitch the actual redwork stitch.
I've been using as a main backstitch and embroider details with the running stitch. Other elements can work with lazy daisy stitch and french knot.

Needles:
Since I have no particular preference. I embroider with pure embroidery needles.

Hoop:
To ensure a uniform should be to rely on an embroidery hoop. For those who are already trained and does not interfere with one or other irregularity can also be free to embroider - without a frame.
When I embroider with frame, I take a metal hoop. But it is also any wooden embroidery frame in the appropriate size.

One more thing:
To design and create patterns, quilt or a pillow like this gives me much joy. Nevertheless, it is in a manual and trouble and labor. I ask you to use this pattern only for personal use.

Any commercial use, in particular the sale of the pattern or the sale of products with parts or the complete pattern is not allowed. Please note the copyright.
